This (Big Dog Lead) is an ideal leash to teach a dog to heel. The shorter 18 inch option is perfect for teaching my growing puppy to stay close while heeling. However, the 3 foot option gives him enough room to wander bout and sniff around. I can also use the clip to loop/tie him to a tree or post while I run in for a cup of coffee. It's a wonderfully simple, yet versatile leash. As with all of bld's leashes, the leather is supple yet strong. -anon

Regarding our Traditional Lead and Leather Slip Collar:
Works beautifully. I've been looking for a collar that offers the correctional abilities of a choke collar, without risking the damage to my dog's neck. This fits the bill: the leather "twist" also rather effectively prevents my dog from backing out. Great leash for a small dog. We use this on our 15 lb dog, who never quite figured out how to heel. It's strong enough to contain her easily when she starts pulling, without being too heavy on her neck. -anon

Lead is very supple and beautifully woven. Extremely awesome for freeing my hands to do other things while on a walk, like opening the treat bag. If I had more dogs there would be no doubt that I get another one. -fishtron

The soft leather doesn’t hurt my hand (or my dog’s neck!) like my old nylon leash and collar does. I love being able to easily tie her for quick shopping trips. It's difficult to explain why this leash is so fantastic--it simply works beautiful. It's extremely different from the leather leashes commonly available at pet stores: this is stronger yet more flexible, and feels smooth in my hand. It doesn't cut into my palm even when my dog darts after the cat across the street. (Incidentally, I was an equestrian for years, and this is indeed the material that good equipment is made from!) I loved it so much that I purchased a set for our other dog. -Auryane
